Material
Ariodante, HW V33 by Georg Friedrich Händel
The love between the soon to be married Ariodante and Ginevra is compromised by a scheme plotted by Polinesso. In Ariodante Händel expresses the many and highly complex states of mind of the characters through his music. It is through these emotions that the characters of the medieval tales become alive and relatable. In this production of Ariodante the emotional pillars of the piece get condensed and isolated in order to make the events the characters go through more compelling to the audience.

“Neggers has good ideas, he shortens the recitatives to a minimum, detaches arias from their narrative context and presents them as emotive monoliths, without nullifying the story. “
